Squares and rectangles are geometric shapes. Use math figure out the area of each shape. Add up the vertical and horizontal planes, discuss the quantities and contrast and compare the differences between various pieces of art.

In the early 1900’s the term Neoplasticism, was coined by an artist named Piet Mondrian. Create a gallery of art samples on a world map showing other popular styles of art from different cultures, during this same time period.

Look at words used to define different styles of art during the same time period as Neoplasticism, and show visual examples to go along with the identification of each piece, for example Fauvism, Expressionism and Surrealism.

Neoplasticism influenced the science behind somearchitectural structures found in different parts of the world. Try constructing a small scale building and paint it using colors and designs with black lines and primary colors, similar to the art of Piet Mondrian.

Try recreating this style of art in other areas, like painting (or knitting) a scarf or baking a cake using the bold black horizontal and vertical lines with blocks of primary colors.
